This summer I drove across a good portion of the US southwest -- Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. Crisscrossing Spain over the past few weeks has reminded me of just how similar the landscapes are. The Spanish settled in the southwest for the same reason Swedes headed to Minnesota and Germans to Wisconsin. It looked like home.
