Practicing for the Palio

While wandering through Siena recently I came across one of the contrada (districts) practicing for the Palio parade. The Palio is held twice a year, in July and August, and features a horse race around the main square of Siena. Each of the districts fields a horse, competing for the honor of winning the Palio, a banner.

Rome from above

Getting great views of Rome is easy from St. Peter's Basilica. It's a short elevator ride to here, but 320 steps up a winding stairway if you want even better views from the top of the dome.
