Hand Crafted Travel

General Conditions

Accommodations: The price of your tour is based on the shared occupancy of twin or double bedded rooms. If you are a single traveler, we won’t charge you the single supplement that most tour companies charge unless you specifically request a room to yourself. If you have not requested a single room, we will try to pair you with someone of the same gender. If we cannot find a room mate for you, you will have a room to yourself at no extra charge. For private tours, these conditions may vary.

Meals: Continental breakfast will be provided each morning. Other meals are included where indicated in the itinerary. During included lunches and dinners beverages are the responsibility of the tour participant.

Conveyances: Surface transportation for the group is included in the price of the tour. Individual transportation to the tour beginning point, from the tour ending point, and during free time, is not included.

Admission: The tour price includes admission to all scheduled group sights, museums, and other activities.

Luggage: Each tour participant is limited to one carry-on sized bag (approximately 9"x14"x22") plus a small tote bag. For private tours, these conditions may vary depending on the number of participants and individual arrangements made with Hand Crafted Travel LLC.

Travel Documents: A valid passport is required for all participants. No visas or immunizations are currently required for US citizens for any of the countries we’ll be visiting. If you do not hold a US Passport, it is your responsibility to determine any visa requirements.

Timing: All times listed in the itinerary are approximate and are subject to change to comply with up-to-date schedules.

Payment Schedule: For normally scheduled tours, a deposit of $500 is required upon submitting a reservation form. For private tours, a deposit of 20% of the tour price is due at the time of booking. The deposit forms a part of the final payment for the tour. The deposit is refundable for any reason for 14 days after we receive it. After 14 days, payment is subject to the cancellation policy set out below. Final payment is due not less than 60 days prior to departure. If final payment is not received by then, we will assume that you have cancelled, and apply the cancellation fees set out below.

Cancellation: Cancellation date is the date we receive notice of a participants intent to cancel in written form. The following cancellation fees apply:
•More than 60 days before departure: Loss of deposit.
•Less than 60 days before departure: 100% of total tour price.

If there is a change in plan: Occasionally it is necessary to change itinerary specifics. We reserve the right to decline to accept as a member, or retain a passenger as a member of a tour. In the event that it becomes necessary or advisable for the well being of passengers, for any reason whatsoever, to alter the itinerary or arrangement, such alterations may be made without penalty to Hand Crafted Travel LLC or its agents. No refund can be made for any feature of a tour not used by the passenger. Due to the vagaries of the travel industry, a scheduled visit to a manufacturer, museum or other event is sometimes cancelled. We cannot guarantee that any item or amenity mentioned will be available, especially where we have no control over it. Should it be necessary to change part of the itinerary, we will make every effort to find a suitable replacement, but can not be held financially responsible for a full or partial refund. We reserve the right to withdraw any and all tours should conditions warrant, and will provide a full refund should we need to cancel a tour prior to departure.

Under no circumstances is the pass holder allowed to validate his or her own pass. In the case of a Flexipass, the passenger must enter the date of travel each day before he/she boards the first train of the day. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the payment of a fine and the cost of a full fare ticket. Also, if there is any indication that a rail pass has been tampered with, forged and or/used by anyone other than the passholder, or used beyond its validity, the railway Official are authorized to confiscate the pass and require the payment of the full fare plus a fine.It is compulsory to present passports to railway officials on request.
* In most cases validity runs from midnight to midnight for the period shown on the pass. 7PM Rule:
When traveling on a direct overnight train (no change of train) departing after 7pm, the next day's date must be entered. In such cases, travel from 7pm and midnight of the following day is included and considered as one day of travel. If the overnight trip requires a train change before midnight, traveler will use 2 travel days.

Seat Reservations:
Having a pass does not guarantee a seat. Seat reservations are optional on most of the trains however they are mandatory for traveling on high speed trains (TGV, Thalys, AVE, etc), international trains (Cisalpino, Lyria etc), night trains (Elipsos, Artesia, etc.) and scenic trains (Glacier Express, Golden Pass, etc). Also, some trains require the payment of a surcharge, which includes the compulsory seat reservation (known as Pass holder ticket). On some trains the number of seats available for Pass holders may be limited. It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance. The cost for the pass holder ticket and/or reservation varies depending on the type of train and country. Rail Europe can secure seat and sleeper reservations for your trip before you depart North America, this ensures that you will have a seat on the train you wish to travel on. Simply click here to begin your reservation request.

Overnight Travel:
European night trains offer a variety of accommodations to suit all budgets. Most night trains offer sleepers and couchettes, and some also have reclining seats.

Couchettes and reclining seats are the most economic type of accommodations. Couchettes are not gender specific; they consist of four bunk beds in 1st class and six in 2nd class. A blanket and pillow is provided, but you sleep in your day clothes. Reclining seats are available on selected trains and generally in 2nd class only.

For more comfort and privacy, you can reserve a sleeper compartment in 1st class accommodating one or two passengers or 2nd class for two or three passengers. Though the compartment may include a wash basin it does not have a private toilet. Toilet facilities are located at the end of each car. Some night trains also offer deluxe compartments with a private toilet and shower. Sleeper compartments are gender specific, except when couples or families occupy all berths.

Night accommodations must be reserved and paid for in advance. On some night trains the number of accommodations for Pass holders may be limited. It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance. Prices vary depending on the type of accommodation and country. Rail Europe can secure seat and sleeper reservations for your trip before you depart North America, this ensures that you will have a seat on the train you wish to travel on. Simply click here to begin your reservation request.
