Cremona, Italy : The city of violins

Cremona, Italy was the home of the most famous violin makers of the 17th and 18th centuries – Amati, Stradivarius, and Guarneri. The tradition of making stringed instruments lives on in Cremona, where more than 140 craftsmen still make them by hand, one instrument at a time, just the way the famous families of the past made them.

Hand Crafted Travel can arrange a visit to the workshop of a luthier (stringed-instrument maker), as part of one of our small group, guided tours, or during a self-guided trip. You'll meet with a the craftsman and learn about the method of making a violin, viola, or cello by hand, a method that can take more than two months.
